Building Authentic Relationships - One Family at a Time

The Community Engagement Journey of the Cajon Valley Union School District

Cajon Valley Union School District is located just east of San Diego, CA, in the city of El Cajon. Our school district is a beautifully diverse community that is rich with culture and incredible perspectives. We support 27 schools and over 16,000 students. CVUSD Enrollment includes students in grades Pre-K through 12 of various ethnicities and languages, including 42.8% White, 36.8% Hispanic, 7.6% Black, 5.7% Asian, 7.1% Other, 72% Socioeconomically Disadvantaged, 20% Students with Disabilities, 1.8 % Homeless, and .44% Foster Youth.

We serve families that speak over 40 languages. The primary languages we serve are English, Spanish, Arabic, Chaldean, Farsi, and Pashto. About 33% of our students are English learners. 10% of our families are newcomers to the United States, having been in a school in the United States for less than three years. For over twenty years, El Cajon has been a resettlement location for families from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria, with many being refugees.

The 8 Promises complete the Cajon Valley MVP. These letters stand for our Mission, to make Cajon Valley the best place to live, work, play and raise a family, our Vision, to develop happy kids, living in healthy relationships on a path to gainful employment and our 8 Promises, the standards, that make us Cajon Valley and establish the way we serve our internal and external customers. The 8 promises unify our efforts to deliver the best service to anyone who calls Cajon Valley home, whether as an employee, student, family or community member.

Named a 2019 Top Workplace in San Diego, Cajon Valley Union School District focuses on the positivity of each student’s unique strengths, interests, and values. Visit the district at www.cajonvalley.net, and follow CVUSD on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
